For a Founding Father

O! Where has our nation been
When thy children sing joyous paean
While firey gunfire tear up endeared serenity
When the captive and the wise struggles in sanity
Remember our fathers, the most preeminent one

He was no more than a short man from Montpelier
Where you notice the scent of tobacco and song of liberty bell
He was the man whose pen stroke ten ditches from
The dark deceiving cell of Panopticon

No one has usurped but the virtue erodes
His admonition was long forgot
During the chaos that shall not be one
Into oblivion thou could no foresee
There had been no victory for thee
Yet freedom stays, in the spirit of Montpelier

Author notes

I am perplexed by this. Montpellier is a nice city in South-Eastern France, what has this do with founding fathers (whatever they may be) ??????? Puzzled regards from Johnny.

Montpelier is also the name of Madison's house, like Mt. Vernon is the name of Washington's residence. It just happens to be a same name.

Nice tribute paid to someone you admire - a founding father of this nation. Do not know much about this man, but you obviously do. Thanks for sharing. Easy to read and understand.
