Demise

Demise

My body lies
in solitude.
Clinging to life
I take my last breath.
Forgive me, my love
for leaving you behind.
One last time
I whisper your name.
As I make this one
sweet sacrifice for you.
I feel my body
going under.
Slipping....
Farther away from life.
Give unto me
just one last kiss
before my immortal
soul arrises to
meet judgement.
As I lay in this
field of innocence,
even in death
you are the only one
I will love.
Finally....
I breathe no more,
and have become
nothing more than
a haunted memory.
As my star deminishes
your star still shines bright.
With darkness
taking over me,
the ascension of spirit
into eternal life.
It is written....
Bring me to life
with my own demise.
I love you more
than life itself.
Cry not for me
as I will be anywhere
that you are.
So close....
and yet, so far.

    Good.

I also caught the subtle Metallica allusion at the end there. . . And ironically, I am listening to "One" (S&M version). At first, this piece reminded me of a firefighter or an office worker, just SOMEONE who perished in the 9/11 massacre. I was also reminded of a story that someone once told me about a mother and daughter trapped under tons of rubble, with shards of glass nearby. The mother, recognizing that her they are both dying of thirst (they have been trapped there for several days,) grabs a shard of glass and slices herself to let her daughter drink the blood.

Then I got to the "fields of innocence" part and realized that that particular phrase would probably not be used in reference to the 9/11 rubble. I was sort of reminded of Elusyian (sp?) fields then, along with the scene of Van Gogh's death, which he painted before he died, which actually kind of fits here. Finally, I gazed upon the whole, lonely (yet beautifully portrayed) picture and I was amazed. I don't even really like Evanescence, but this was friggin' awesome.
