I sold my reflection
To the child of the river
Now I can't see the pain in my own eyes
Because the mirror thinks I'm invisible
That I don't exist
Her dark waters hold my shadow
As it swims to the pit of her shallow tide
My tears seep into her heart
Capturing my sarrows
To set aflow within her blood
The sun now warms her soul
To protect her from the chill of fallen waters
I sold my reflection
To the child of the river
For a life beyond the water
For strength beyond the rapids and waves
The currents that once betrayed my soul
Imprisoned it from my hearts desire
And held it until my breath became a gentle ripple
Spreading my memories within the waters depths
I sold my reflection
To the child of the river
But the beat of my heart struck still
The sound of my voice fell silent
And the feel of my touch went numb
My eyes have now been hollowed
And when I look down into what is now her reflection
I see only what I have left behind
What I've paid to have it back
When I didn't know the lost can never return
...As Whole
I sold my reflection
To the child of the river.

Oooh, this is a very beautiful piece. I love the sound of the repeated line "I sold my reflection to the child of the river" it speaks very deeply and very loudly to me. I love the dark water imagery in this, you pulled me under and held me under until the very last line. Beautiful poem, I was hoping to get some dark imagery in this contest, especially for the element of water. Thank you for sharing this with me, and for inspiring me!
