He was born on April Fools day
a funny prankster on his way
Living life with glorious flare
calling all he could to dare
Leaving me saddened on his way out
my heart felt sick without a doubt
Smiling in life he did with glee
going home to heaven to be free
I miss him so with all his pranks
thinking back on his military rank
Those guys he served with must have blew a gut
keeping them fun from their military rut
A jokester among the ranks command
laughing with every shouted demand
He lived a life of fun and hope
letting his family deal and cope
With sickness hitting his body sore
fleeing out of this world evening the score.
Every April fools day that comes around
we think of things he did so profound
I look to the phone to wait for the foolish rings
a sound that never comes, sad silence my heart sings.
Empty moments flood my soul with happy tears
as I look back on all the wonderful years.
