Only birds move now.
Hopping the dirt, searching for
fattened worms to eat.

The bodies, in rows
like sets of teeth, or sardines
being swallowed by the earth.

    for such a short piece, it is very vivid. I think the use of the word "sardines" was particularly vivid

    You have made your point particularly well...for this is all that's left of man after the worst is done. Powerful imagery, this is harsh and painful, yet the truth is seldom clean or nice. Bravo.

    Wow, less is more is what I was going to say, but it's already been said, this s poignant and in your face kind of writing which I love, so true I can picture the many battlefields around the world and this scene within them, with ease unfortunatly... fantastic job on this piece
