Your packing your duffle
your leaving again
they sent you the papers
to Iraq this time
getting closer to those bomber
to those I don't understand.
Your finally finishing
your uniform is clean.
I don't like this baby
this wasn't part of the dream
now its all different
you hug me close
now its all different
you know that its true.
Into your pocket
I tuck the picture of us
taken outside the movies
our first date as us.
"Carry this picture,
until your back in my arms.
Carry this picture
everywhere you are."
Tear didn't fall
he hugged me again
then kissed me
and tucked his pocket in.
Three months my baby's been gone
three months over sea's
I got a picture the other day
him smiling back at me
with that picture in his hand.
And another of him kissing it.
I could almost feel him holding my hand.
On the back he'd written
'Carry this picture
until I'm back in your arms.
Carry this picture
everywhere you are.
Carry this picture
and know that I love you.
Carry this picture
I'll love you forever.'

thanks for entering, and good luck. just as a note, i really loved how you captured the military aspect. having a loved one in the military isnt easy but you did a fine job of expressing it. great write.
