Hunting Scapegoats

When scientists first toyed with making clones
What was the compass of their pristine thoughts?
Did it exceed the limits of the glass
which housed their expectations and themselves?
For Press and Media had both their feet
upon the road to cloning human brains
to reproduce the arrogance and spite,
their daily rush of jobsworth scavenging,
Which ceaselessy invade our homes and hearts.
We are such clones as generations past
might never dream of. Yet our fears are strong
for scapegoats run amok with bleating mouths
and trample heedlessly across the fields
of other people's hopeful husbandry.
Those provendors of prejudicial scorn
sit high and mighty in their studios
slipping lies and doubtful practices
into our ears and overburdened eyes.
Then out into the streets the hunters rush
with loaded questions, quivering microphones
and gather cloned responses from the few
whose stunted brains know neither false nor true.

    Fantastic!!

Grams, this is a fantastic write that speaks volumes about today's society. Life has become a feeding frenzy for many & the media have a way of making mountains from mole hills. Their opinions are often biased and people relay only what they think others wish to hear. This is a dog-eat-dog world on many levels and this poem has invoked many thoughts for me, the reader. I hope this claims the Gold, it certainly deserves too.
    Love Always
    Laura

Hallo again, pruedence and thank you for your comments which are interesting. I do indeed object to the idea of cloning human beings but the point I was really making is that the media and Press have now conditioned our thinking precisely along their lines so successfully that most of us don't even know that at all. They hunt the scapegoats and we, generally, simply accept all the blame and obloquy they deliver. That is what I mean by cloning brains.

Hi grandaughter mine and thank you for the comments. At least you have actually read the meaning correctly! Not that I'd expect anything less from you, but I did hope people would get the point that the Press and media have actually succeeded in making the majority of readers and viewers think the way they want us to. Worse still, most people aren' even aware of the fact that their opinions on politics in particular are merely cloned. Never mind, eh?
      blessings and love, grams.

Nice poem...clones, well I don't believe we should fool around with nature...or how living things are made...the world has much better things that are needed..first try to cure the sick before you waste money making more beings...or are they beings at all..what are they...we need not waste time or money in this area...your poem is thought provoking as you can see...nicely done, thanks for sharing

    Pretty good

I liked you adressed the subject with religous roots. Great job I really liked it. My faveorite part was:

For Press and Media had both their feet
Upon the road to cloning human brains
To reproduce the arrogance and spite
Their daily rush of jobsworth scavenging
Which ceaseless invade our homes and hearts.

I could relate to that part alot!! Great job best of luck in your writing future.

Cloning has existed in plants for thousands of years. The new testament talks of gentiles being grafted onto the olive tree of the jews. There always seems to be some fairly substantial unexpected consequences to pushing on an organic system; or replicating a "prefered" breed when something else natural decides to eat it. (Potato famine, dutch elm disease etc.) I do however, believe in knowledge for knowledge sake and expect benefits to finding out how things work. Perhaps, a "follow the money" jaundiced eye is in order. The researchers will be looking for stuff they can patent and make fortunes with.

Loved the thoughts you put forth in these lines- dark and deep into cloning and what it means. Words dark as well, uncommon ones ususally not used in poems, yet all fit together here so well. Some unique reflections in these lines.

This is an AWESOME write.. full of deep thoughts and sentiment. Cloning is a scary subject as our scientists dig where no man should go. Good luck in the contest. You did an excellent job here. Your skilled vocabulary enhanced the imagery of the way things really are. Blessings. debby
