I want you to walk through that door
And see me ensconced in my leather chair.
(You’ll think it’s a throne
and I’ll laugh at the image.)
I want you to smile recognition as I look up
Over the rim of my coffee mug and smile back.
(I do not want to expect you –
I’d rather be surprised.)
I want you to act nonchalant
as you take off your jacket
And find yourself trapped in a sleeve.
(I want to laugh and help you escape.)
I want you to stand next to me awkwardly
As we lose ourselves in the music.
(I want to know we’re not really lost –
We’re not really listening.)
I want you to know I want you.
(Do you want me too?
Or did I only imagine you do?)
