Ode to owlishhunter.

.

The rhythmic beat of drums increased, and the fire flared up high,
Discreet shadows scurried everywhere underneath the star lit sky.

A loud scream pierced the air, as a brave began to slowly prance,
His birthday was the celebration and he danced in a sober trance.

Soon other braves joined the ring, chanting well wishes out aloud,
Laughter echoed in the cool night air, from a happy watching crowd.

His movements intensified as he danced around the blazing flame,
Laughing out whenever wild applause, from the crowd gladly came.

Then he jumped upon his trusty steed and over the dark prairie flew,
Wind strong on face hair streaming back, such freedom nothing new.

As centuries passed slowly by, earth leisurely transformed its’ face,
But spirits of those distant braves, live here within our modern place.

They surface from time to time, and are a part of this modern life,
I know of such a brave with four nice kids and wonderful future wife.

Absorbed he danced around the flames, learning the ancient craft,
A crowd watched enthralled, and in joy out loud he often laughed.

Across the prairie he rides again, wind streaming through his hair,
A Harley throbbing ‘tween his legs, he rides with the same old flair.

He writes of his feelings soft, poignant pages from nature’s book,
Nobly shared with his brothers, from a monitor at which they look.

So owlishhunter will perform once more, his ritual birthday dance,
This April 7 th around the fire he’ll dance, again while in a trance.

    laugh out loud

that's funny. i had a vulture in my head when i was reading this. it was surfacing from time to time and being personified around the prairie. then the vulture became a father and i was like- oh.. maybe he's a party animal. brilliant twist.

Kris pointed me in this direction and I'm very glad he did. You have written a wonderful tribute to a wonderful poet and man here on AP. You have managed to bring the dance to life, both old and new, and as it is one thing I will never witness, I must say thank you for sharing it with us...Sue

    THANK YOU!!

You have my eternal thanks and appreciation for such a vivid and fitting write! This piece is rather dreamlike indeed and I simply adore how you've woven the past and the present into one. I must admit that I sometimes do imagine that Harley beneath me and the freedom of the open road as a trusty steed and the freedom of times long past. Like you, I believe we must ever remember where we've been to clearly see where it is we are going, and with this piece you have brought to life something magical for all to see. And I must say, for someone who I assume has never been in the dance ring at a native american rite, you have truly captured the joy of the dance!! So I extend my deepest gratitude for such a wonderful gift from a dear friend! Bravo once more!

AS far as I know his name is all american USA I had to work on only what is on his website and it says he has a Harley and is learning native american dancing and other facts, so I would think anything Behemian would be remote, but mate, ask him yourself how he got his name. He is a nice guy and quite approachable. Thanks for the applause and comment for they are much appreciated.

What a almost fantasy/ dreamtime kind of write you have here!!
What a character, I love how you have really brought him to life visually and emotionally,
Sounds like the kind of person this world needs more of!!
Loved once again your style on this piece your rhyming is great the words leap about as you read them creating a real feeling of prose,
Anyone should be and would be honoured to recieve this poem about themselves,
A fine tribute indeed, and an amazing write from you!!!

      Hi Mate,
Thanks for the wonderful comments and applause. I am glad you liked it and funny enough, you remind me of having a similar personality, but don't know enough about you yet. lol maybe you are a Yamaha freak .... Great to hear from you again. I am at the boat harbour ready to leave for the Motor Home Village at Casino and where we are having a Bush Poet's weekend the week after Easter. Got butterflies in the gut because I have nominated to perform some of my work but have no idea how it will go over with all the GREY GONADS or is GREY NOMADS ?? always get that mixed up.lol Giving atrial read lunchtime today.
I will have 24/7 of peace to write ... so I am hoping to better the quality now. (and quantity) ..no more Vegemite sangers ... lol what freedom means ..
      Take care mate,
      Barry

    ooo

the dance reminds me of my father's dance that he does when he's really happy. this is a cultural and a universal theme- the theme of dance. i like the way you wrote how it applies to different cultures, people, races, ages, ect. it's very cool and well written. each couplet is a rhythmic dance. wanna be a.p. friends? i'm new.

      What a coincidence.

Thanks Dear Sandy .. he seems such a nice guy and is a great fan of mine too. Actually he made a comment about the 'lovly poem' I wrote for YOUR birthday and stated that he wished someone would write one for him .......... so I asked him the date and as it is only next week I wrote and posted it so that a few people will comment (hopefully) by the time he comes on next (Eastern USA) from memory, and the other facts (learning Native dancing. ) is on his website and is a hobby of his. So you see, writing for you because you mentioned I had given you a nice comment 'on my birthday too' you said, I wrote your birthday poem and now his .. See ?? it was all your fault and I end up the winner because I made TWO people happy.
