Bob Marley - Legend

Three Little Birds came unto me,
said have you heard of Bob Marley?
This man, a legend he became,
his love of music brought him fame.

Small Axe he carried round with him,
chopping through life with so much vim.
Buffalo Soldier, that he was,
fighting for right, that was his cause.

He Shot the Sheriff, plain to see,
he didn't shoot no deputy.
Waiting In Vain to see world peace,
Jamming with friends was his release.

He'd Stir It Up at any time,
for him I wrote this little rhyme.
Now Get Up Stand Up for your rights,
music's over, turn out the lights.

Author notes

I tried to use as many of the titles from his album Legend as I could in this. I also got in the "Small Axe" you requested. I hope you enjoy this. It was fun to write about the Legend!

Pam, Thank you so very much for the applauses and your lovely words. When I saw the contest I just started to write. I spent a couple of weeks in Jamaica back in 1990 and while there I was actually mistaken as a native of Jamaica by another tourist. I was laid back and lovin it. Say me no worry, about a thang. Cause every little thang, gonna be alright. Stress free there!!!!! I'm very happy you enjoyed my tribute for Bob, he was a genius. Love ya my friend, Joyce

I loved this. The rhythm and rhyme were musical. I am sorry to admit I am not that familiar with Bob Marley's music although his name is a legend. Your poem has inspired me to find more of his works and have a listen, mon. Peace. Liz

Ah… this brings back fond memories. I love Bob Marley. I have a friend who grew up with him when she was a little girl. You composed this quatrain perfectly and the aabb rhyme scheme flows with perfect meter. Throughout the entire poem, Marley songs flowed through my head. Well done!

    Love,
    Amera

Amera, Thank you very much for the applauses and your lovely words. I saw his son Ziggy many times live and even in Jamaica. He came to Negril for the first time in his life when we were there. He made sure to inform the audience of that. I'm very happy that you enjoyed this piece. Praise Jah!!!!! Joyce

I was sitting here listening to a little reggae and other music as well and saw the contest. I immediately took the pen and paper and went for it. I've seen his son Ziggy many times live including a trip to Jamaica where he played in Negril while we were there. It was his first time ever in Negril he informed the audience that night. I'm very happy that you enjoyed this and thank you for your lovely words. Praise Jah!
