Grandpa's tears washed his face.
As a hand of mine,
Within his own, I placed.
He layed before me,
On his bed, so weak and frail.
His hand so clammy,
His cheeks so pale.
Breath come short,
Whispering, despite the pain, he tried.
And with great trembling effort,
Gently he spoke to me "goodbye."
Misunderstanding,
For too young was I.
Kissing his cheek,
And saying, "I'll see you tonight."
His tears again,
Began to flood.
Wrapping my arms, tightly,
'Round him with love.
"Pumpkin, my sweet pumpkin,
Promise never, you'll cry."
A last tender kiss,
"I promise; goodnight."
Away from his bedside,
I left with no glance.
Who would have known,
Grandpa finished his dance.
With tears and great sorrow,
I took on the news.
But remembering my promise,
I carried the love, I'd never lose.
Time swept by,
Great pain, slowly grew.
What would you say,
If that pumpkin, was you?
With courage and pain,
I said my goodbye.
A last gentle kiss,
"I promise; goodnight."
Author notes
I wrote this today. I showed my friend, and then she was like "Oh my gosh." It snapped to realization that she just lost her grandfather. I pulled it away before she finished, she was almost crying. But she really liked it and asked for a copy of it. Kind of settled things between my grandfather as I believe it did with hers. I left him without a glance back, and never got to say goodbye to him. I always thought I would just see him later.
Please tell me what you think

well it happened to a bff of mine, Victoria. She started crying...I completely spaced on her grandpa when I had her read it
. She said it was JUST like what happened. But it made her feel better. As for happening to me...Yes, I was 8 and in a different state...So I never said my goodbye

It is very difficult when the loss of someone close to you has come part of your life. But, poetry among many things is a great outlet. And, there are ways to deal with the pain. It's important, if the loss is by death, to remember they aren't gone. They've only become your gaurdian angel, and are there in a different way. I appreciate greatly your kind comment, and I wish you the best of luck in dealing with your loss. And I appologize for the tears there, m'dear! Never intentional, I promise! Thank you again!
