I am a meme inside your spine
the mirror shows my pantomime
you lap my comfort line by line
you know the drill, for you are mine
I love you for the energy
you give to me so willingly
and even though you hold the key
you’ve no interest in breaking free
you’ll never know that I’ve made you
the scope and breadth of all you do
my master works hidden from view
your separated soul my due
I am the meme and you’ll not see
our symbiosis naturally
because the choice is either me
or full responsiblilty
Author notes
A Meme is a perception that is infectious and replicates itself. The human version of a computer virus. It can spread from person to person, and can be as simple as an expression, "Holy Cow!" to a cult manifesto. The key is that they are spread without any supporting facts or verification, yet they spread anyways. Here I am revering to the most insidious memes, what the great psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich called "The Emotional Plague."

Usually people develop their demons by feeling sorry for themselves as children. Once these traits develop they perpetuate themselves, leaving the person at the mercy of something they do not understand.

You know what, Allan ...
you write superb teachings of this kind! Now see, how well I know these memes infiltrating any relationship. And: the only cure to treat them is to live your life in honesty and in joy. Yes. Perceptions are almost impossible to change. Neutralize them by lots of loving care for those infected.

Always Myra

I love the rhyme scheme as it is done perfectly with the abab. Yea and I don’t want anything in my spine especially a “meme”.
