The little girl smiled
as she read her fairytales,
sitting in the wardrobe
amongst soft toys and books.
She fell asleep there,
and they looked for her
three hours later, eventually
finding her seven-year-old body
curled up in her safehaven.
She didn't tell them then.
The only person
who may've known
was the one
who held the secret
she'll never tell...
It's funny to think how then,
it didn't matter how hot it was,
only that I fashioned my own world
around everything else I had to endure.
Sometimes
I think I was stronger
then than I am now.
Author notes
I don't know, I was just thinking about the picture of me falling asleep when I was seven and I fell asleep while reading in my wardrobe. When I was eight I used to hide there, simply because I was living in someone elses house with my mom and baby sister, needing some quiet, and no one would ask questions

Interesting glimpse into your past. Maybe it's just me, but it seems that you may not have had the greatest time when you were 8 and hiding in the wardrobe. It's sad that nobody questioned where you were during that time too. We escape however we can when we're kids...then we have no choice but to face everything as we get older. Well written poem.

Wow! Well, thank you very much for that comment, and no, it wasn't the best time, but we live, we learn, we grow stronger, and worse things come... it's life, and we get through it
thank you, once again!

LIONS Have Pride
Well written my friend. Spoken from the heart with true emotion and depth. Oh the tales the wardrobes hide. Great Job.
*Go with God* my friend,

Lions..?
I think you've become stronger.
I want to be a kid again, I want to know nothing at all of facts, and dates, and live in my own world, with my own rules, which seemed to work better.

LIONS HAVE PRIDE!
A wonderful memory to share with us, I liked your escape into the wardrobe, I can remember hiding there myself on the odd occasion, but mostly I would take a pillow and lie under the bed, and now I can't stand enclosed spaces
Your hidaway seemed a safe haven for you, sad though when a child seeks peace and quiet but mysterious because it was secret
A most enjoyable read, thank you for sharing it with us today
You have been spotlighted by a lion friend...

LIONS HAVE PRIDE!
A very nice write reflecting upon this scene in your past. Heartfelt. Good imagery, flow and tone. Lovely expression of feeling. Poignant with sadness. Very nice assonance. Well done.

Lions Have Pride!
Sometimes reliving our past makes us understand who we are and why we are the way we are nowadays. It's hard to get to grasp with a lot of the time and sometimes it's not just simply 'get over it' or 'let it go'. Those are the hardest things to do in life as our past makes us who we are today.

Oooooooh
Memories......
It did seem a bit longing, and sad
And wistful
I just loved the tone
It was silky and beautiful
it's stange when people write about these kind of memories
They can be sad, but still beautiful
And this was beautifully recalled and expertly written
Well done
Love and hugs

What memories you have touched on, I havn't thought about in such a long time. Yours was a closet, mine was an old ford roadster we had in the garage. When I wanted to be alone, I could go there and not be bothered. Seemed alittle sad yet beautiful at the same time, Xlnt write my friend...GETS

LIONS HAVE PRIDE!!
Excellent! Nostalgic even. Memories of childhood can be so innocent, and you've penned a great one here. It made me think of C.S. Lewis and little Lucy hiding in the wardrobe. I liked the parallel between your past and the story. Good luck in the contest. >pixxie< -

LIONS HAVE PRIDE!!!
This is a wonderful write, and brings back a lot of memories for me, too. By brother's bedroom had a small but deep walk-in closet my parents used for storage. I moved the boxes around until I had my own private hide away in the back...loved to play in there, even though it was quite dark. It was one place I could go where no one could find me. My memories are not nearly as painful as yours, thankfully. But I can relate to that feeling of just wanting and needing a place to call your own.
Thank you so much for sharing!
Best wishes,
~J.

LIONS HAVE PRIDE!!!!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful
part of your history with us ~
I had my moments as I took rides from hitch-hikers,
and tried to read as they tried to molest....
...and then I found that if I didn't respond,
and acted as if I wasn't interested,
they would leave me alone ~
...and that is when I started reading ~
I would read on the side of roads with
my thumb stuck out waiting for a ride ~
You brought back a lot of memories ~
Your poem was a delight to read,
...and makes me stronger now after facing the past....again ~
Thank you and God Bless....
always,
Bear ~

This was so sweet! But you have noticed (at a young age of all times) that there's pain in this world... But you try to hide away... *sighs* I don't know, this is just so cute!
