What is strength?
What is it that truly makes us strong?
Is the jock strong?
Do his muscles,
bulky weight,
towering height,
make him strong?
Is the intellectual strong?
Does his high IQ,
big words,
witty retorts,
make him strong?
Is the dreamer strong?
Does her creativity,
imagination,
brightness,
make her strong?
Is the anarchist strong?
Does his will to express full freedom,
to be himself, and only himself, in every way,
to live life as it should be lived,
make him strong?
Is the poet strong?
Do her fierce lyrics,
provocative thoughts,
inter- and intra-personal connections,
make her strong?
Is the slave strong?
Does his tolerance,
submissiveness,
will and ability to please,
make him strong?
Am I strong?
Does my pursuit for personal truth,
open-mindedness,
defiant, optimistic nature
make me strong?
I believe
we are all strong,
every one of us-
except for those
who refuse to be,
who hide cowardly behind
fake names, prosthetic faces.
So tell me this.
Are you strong?

I wrote this at a time when I was beginning to think I was weak. But I am not.

it made me think about whether i was strong and made me think that i am not strong because i hide another face that is not mine and i run from my problems instead of solving them.
it is true that everyone is strong but that we have to want to be strong or we never will be. you really portrayed this thought well in the poem and it certainly made me think about my life and my own actions

I love it, you're not weak you're definitely strong. I love how the series of questions make us pause and think....is that particular type of person strong, I also agree with your verdict that everyone one is strong - except the people who hide. It made me realise at the end how weak I really am, but I hide beneath the mask of ambition that I have created for myself - I am not strong.

It deffinetely showed emotion! I never thought about this before. It has me thinking. People always tell me I am a strong girl. I am starting to wonder what kind of strength they are talking about.

I really do think you showed the emotion you were shooting for. It does make the reader think of what strength really is, and it shows how everyone has strength within themselves in different ways. I thought the rythm/flow got a little off in the anarchist stanza. I thought the last two lines really tied everything together well. So yeah, over all, well done.

That was a beautiful poem showing the strength in all people who choose to be strong, the strength in people who are themselves and no one else, and the strength in people who don't hide from who they are. It was amazing and very good.

Wow girl, this is amazing because of the fact that it speaks the truth. Not many are able to fully explain or question what strength truly is but you did a wonderful job.
