Bright eyed and excited,
College was the place for me.
To be a teacher,
Influence young minds.
I would live for me,
Do all I wanted to do.
Nights on the town,
Days lounging in bed.
The first in my family,
I'd have a degree.
Proof that nothing,
No one, could hold me back.
One night turned to a life,
A new beginning,
A different path,
A mom to be.
A career or a child,
Which would I choose?
Could I have both?
I would certainly try.
Days at work,
Nights at school.
Up through the night,
Holding the baby.
Missing a step,
First words unheard.
Was it worth being gone,
To go back to school?
The most important choice,
My child over a degree.
Classrooms no longer,
They just couldn't hold me.
A child's laugh,
The innocent questions.
Worth much more,
Than anything else.
Learning from one another,
Taking each day as it comes.
I'm forever in school now,
I'm in The School of Mom.

Hiya Jen,
Nicely written and very enlightening. Hats off to you for trying, and then, for making such a tough decision for the benefit of your child. It's nice how you end the piece, showing how both roles are similar, so you are realising your ambitions either way. 'The School of Mom' is a nice concept, but unfortunately not one in which I'm qualified to make an application! Furhermore, 'The School of Dad' hasn't even been built yet, and won't be for a good few years I hope!
Do remember though, you are only young! Enjoy bringing up your child, and when you're ready... you go for that career!
Nice write.
David. x
