it is barely dawn
as giggling kookaburras
laugh in a new day
morning spider’s web
jewelled with tiny dew-drops
gifts from a cold night
a pair of black swans,
showing white tipped wings, take off
from the peaceful lake
swimming ducks ripple
the upside-down reflections
of the distant shore
in the wat'ry light
of this cold new morning, all
seems fresh and unsoiled
