He had traveled a thousand miles
in search of something.
The thing was,
he couldn't remember what it was
or if it was even his to find.
It never failed to amaze him
what one would do
while in love...
...or intoxicated.
He'd lost count
of how many men he had killed
to be standing where he was now,
but his breath caught
and it ceased to matter.
Maybe it was the way
the wind had caught him at the perfect angle,
or maybe it was the fact
that the sun itself seemed to be guided
by some heavenly director
keen on achieving the perfect lighting for this scene.
Either way,
it was a gorgeous moment -
one that he had very much needed.
It isn't every day
that a lost mercinary
would find a moment
that made his world stand still.
Then again,
she seemed to have that effect on men.
