Chest in the Attic - Part 1

Light streamed through the cracks in the roof, making the flying dust visible in the air. Madilyn coughed lifting some of the smaller boxes off the large chest that had caught her eye a few days ago.
She and her mother had been up her cleaning when spotted the hidden beauty but when she questioned her mother she pushed the subject away. There's something special in there.. Madilyn thought sitting back. She stared curiously at it, excitement trickling through her body. "There's no lock on it or anything.." She whispered, her voice seeming to get lost in the silence. Madilyn slowly reached a hand forward to brush some of the dust off before reaching both hands to slowly pull back the cover. Every noise made her flinch, terrified that someone would hear her and come up to see what she was doing. Setting the cover down she stared insided, blinking rapidly at what she saw. Everything tucked neatly into a spot yet everything stood out to her. On the bottom a Oujia board was places neatly with a few book placed over it. Beside them were a few candles, three black, two purple and one white one.
"What is all this stuff?" Locks of her brown bouncy hair fell over her shoulder, framing her beautiful china doll face. Her eyes scanned over a few more things before stopping on a pentagram. It was burned into a piece of wood that had been carefully cut, sanded and varnished. Chewing her lower lip nervously she reached inside, pulling out the square. She flipped it over, on the back something was written but she couldn't make it out. Setting it aside she began to sift through a few more of her mother's things eventually coming across a deck of tarot cards.
"What the.." Madilyn's voice trailed off, setting them aside as well. There was a stack of books nearly reaching the rim of the chest. Reaching both hands in she pulled them carefully, praying there were no spiders in or on them. Picking up the largest one she wiped the cover with her sleeve, blowing dust everywhere once again. Written in gold ink on the front was another pentagram along with the word Wicca underneath.
"No way." Madilyn gasped in disbelief, dropping it quickly she pushed herseld backward away from the chest. Sitting back she wrapped her arms around her legs pulling her knees to her chin resting it there.
"I don't believe this.." Her father being the religious preson he was could have never owned these things so obviously they were her mothers. But we're Catholic.. Maddie thought, staring at the chest in amazement.
"Madilyn?!" Her mother hollered up the stairs and quickly she jumped,
"Yeah I'm up here Mom!" She called back, quickly putting the things back the way she had found them, vowing to take a better look at them when she had more time.  Her mother walked up the stairs softly,
"What were you doing up here?" She asked, squinting because of all the dust,
"Nothing really, I just wanted to look through a few more of these boxes.. It was pretty cool when were up here looking through some of this stuff." Madilyn smiled cutely and her mother laughed,
"It isn't all that cool when you have allergies to dust.." She began, swatting the air, "common, lets go downstairs and get supper ready. Your dad will be home soon." Standing she brushed the dirt off of her, walking airly after her mother. What else don't I know about my family? She wondered, brushing her hair back over her shoulder before pinning it up. She couldn't help but giggle at the things that came to her mind.

Author notes

This is going to tie into the stories about Devin and Ryan I think.. I might work Ryan in as Madilyn's father. I'm still not sure yet though.. Enjoy
