Teaching How to Sprint

"Will you teach me how to sprint as you do?"  The girl walked up as I began to practice.
"Of course if you like..."
"So... what must I wear?"
She gave me an eye locked stare
"Well.. To truly spring, you need shoes with cleets,
and blocks."
"Cleets?" She looked to her feet, "What are those?"
"Little spikes on the bottom of the shoe."
"Ok" she said with the faintest of smiles
"And you would not run on black top," I continued
"Yes?" She asked in eagerness
"for real track, you need a track," Her eyebrows raise only so slightly, eyes still caressing mine.
" and thats rubberized."  I gulped. She was cute.
"Ah.."
"Then...you set your blocks."
"Sounds Great." She didnt hesitate.
"You get down...and feet will have one up...one back"
"Yes."  Her excitement was building.
"Strongest leg to the front..."
She giggled suddenly...
"Then ... you crouch..." I continued step by step.
"Ah.."
"Then...they say.." recalling the chant.
"Yes"
"runners on your marks!"
"Yes, Get set!" She was in her element now.
"Yeah... GET SET!" I continued, "Then... you pull up a little bit for the jump..."
"Yes GO!"  She was ready to jump the gun, I smiled.
"Then..yes POW! the gun, "
"Ah, yes..." she murmured.
"Then  GOGOGOGOGOGO"
"GO!" She was already ahead of me.
"Catch me! she cried to me in her joy.
"Ah...dont lean back in your stride" I continued, "Always a lil lunge to the front."
"Yes!"
"Your pushing the earth behind you.  Spinning it."
Again she laughed.
"The air...it comes to you, you dont have to force the breath... you see?"
She meerly observed quietly in her breathing.
"Your hands...knives...to cut in front of you" I flattened her hands in mine.
"Tell me more!" She was enjoying it far more than I had hoped.
"Well, if you go between the air here, ..just right..it will come in behind ..and push a little for you"  I smiled at her minding the details.
"Then...you break the ribbon, and win!"  I looked at her...she seemed...as though she had run it, twice.
"Thank you.. that was, very nice."  Her smile was flashing, and so were her eyes...  I thought to myself, I think I should ask her out on a date.

    Ah Devon ...

and how I enjoyed this lesson in sprinting! It took me back years and years, when I had breath only for 100 m and relay ... I am sure it will not surprise you to learn I am a sprinter and not a long distance runner. Is that why life is so short?

Perhaps running on clouds will slow down my pace ... A slow-motioned Eternal race ...

Thank you for a most enjoyable flight down memory lane.

    Love
    Myra
