Inspiration

I listen to the rain as I lay
half-awake in my bed and stare
out into the darkness.

The muse is whispering in my ear.

She sings to me.  I listen
intently.  She will not let me
sleep until I rise and take note.

My mind dances with images.

A young woman clothed in a
gown of roses with a train
of dew-beaded flower petals
looks over her shoulder
her image an inverse reflection
in a sparkling pool of light.

A child rises into the air
as if born on fairy wings
and floats weightless
like being underwater.

A faint strain of music
sends me into the air
and I dance unrestrainedly
my body left behind
free for the first time
I sing with the voice
trapped in my throat
that has never been heard
it is the voice of my soul.

In my mind I see these things
as I am falling asleep
I must capture these dreams.

So I rise up gently
careful not to disturb them.

And I write.

Author notes

Yes. I was trying to go to sleep but Poetry woke me up. And she wouldn't leave me alone until I wrote this. Typical.

I blame Night Hope for this; I thank Night Hope for my inspiration.

Such a delicate, gentle, tender work of beauty . . . I have never read you before, but thanks to our mutual friend Wanda, I will be reading more in the future, of that I am sure.

Night Hope has a tendency to bring people together. I encourage you to read more of my work, perhaps provide your own critique, for she seems to hold you in some esteem. Hopefully you will be pleased by my other works as you were with this one.

Amazing how, when, why, where, our muse speaks to us...sometimes she is a gentle nudge, and sometimes a ranting, raving lunatic....other times she is peaceful onlooker absorbing......she spoke to you on this one...provided great visuals....peacefulness...good job, good luck!

    Captivating

A gorgeous tribute to the tenacity of the Muse, Muirghiel. Long may she keep you awake if your sleeplessness results in poems of this quality!

Ah, but the very least she usually has the good sense to tag her inspiration to something that happens during the day, so that I can write about it straight away, she usually doesn't bother me when I'm going to sleep. I encourage you to read my other works and decide for yourself if their quality meets your standards!

    Bravo

Done so wonderfully well with perfectly even-toned voice throughout…fine meter. This is something that every true poet must deal with at one time or another…how much wonderful poetry is lost because we did not get up and write down the promptings of he Muse! Excellent! Bravo..bravo…bravo…

Yah...those muses whisper so softly...and a good thing as I can only feel the words like baby's breath on a naked sholder...beautiful this is scribe of infant infinities to illustrate

Heyyy, don't blame me, Lady; I suffer from the same malady as you do... Only mine won't let me go to sleep at all...I have to send her on errands so I can catch a lil' rest while she's gone... What a lovely penning this is, Myra...& I have adored the Durwaigh Gallery since I found it over 2 years ago...I wept the first time I watched the trailer, "Knock on the Duir"...This is beautiful & ohhh, so completely the way so many of us feel...it doesn't seem to matter what time it is; there are always Poets here, wandering the darkened corridors while the rest of the world slumbers...Well done, my Friend...& ohhh, alright...if ya wanna blame me, go on ahead; I don't mind...In fact, I'm quite honored... Wanda

Just because you got the same lot as the rest of us doesn't give you immunity when you agitate our condition!

But we love you for it.

Very few people call me that anymore; I've missed it so badly. Thank you, Sweetie.

Lol Dear Wanda does this quite often doesn't she? Bless her, this is a beautiful piece and a beautiful picture to blend. My muse is a bad clockwatcher also, she makes her mind up in the wee small hours and you cannot do anything my friend but write. Love, C

For several months she was quite silent, was my muse, I'm glad to hear from her again, so I thought I'd write her a little tribute while images of rose-clad ladies and children dancing in the sky were still fresh in my mind.

    Astounding...

This was beautiful love. An Awe inspiring set of images that will relax me gently into love's embrace even as you were pulled from it to write this from the depths of your soul. I thank the night for bringing you back for these few moments to tell us of the peaceful images floating through your mind.
