I dream of better times-
When Avalon still stood
Amidst that misty lake
And mortal men still fancied us.
But all has been wiped out,
Our loveliness all lost.
To a mortal world of churchly laws
Our ways are too "corrupt."
I fear each day they'll find me out-
My face is unlike others.
Too fair to be like mortal folk,
Unwizended by times ungracious hand.
So now I wander, alone-
Heretic among the saved
Cast out for my enchantedness,
Abandoned to my memories.

sad but beautiful
You tell of feeling like an outcast in a new land, as your enchanted land has ceased to thrive. I can feel the emotion in each stanza, and I can relate to being abandoned with my memories.

I guess you can apply this to many a situation in today's world, not only to the situation you described. I enjoyed reading this. Thank you for sharing.

Hi, lovely, it has a great feel to it, I am a sucker for fantasy writes of this type, it suits the pic well as if they belong together, but your poem stands on it's own at the same time, all the best in the comp,I enjoyed reading this poem, hugs Di

I like this poem alot. It leaves a great deal to the reader's imagination, which I thought was wonderful. The mystery of Avalon is one of my favourite fantasies to read about. I hope you do well in the contest
