Eagle's Sonnet For (A) Dove (English Sonnet)

Missing image

When Life in form of grief knocks at your door
And heart is burdened with corroding pain
Please lift your head and see my Spirit soar
Above the dark and heavy clouds of rain

My nest I’ve built where rarely men have been
For they prefer to dwell in crowded space
Yet often is your gentle spirit seen
Where Eagle’s wings the open sky embrace

White Dove, our Sister, you have come from far
Vertigo’s spell surpassed in lofty heights
Pure heart connected to the brightest star
Your gift of Peace is lifting sorrow’s weights

Invoke my Strength whenever yours may faint
Amongst all Doves you are a living Saint

    Excellent

I never thought of the eagle as a symbol of one's spirit before. This poem is above the clouds.

yes, in the native american tradition, eagle is also called great spirit; it is one of poetess dove's main totem animals, therefore the combination of dove and eagle here

Gorgeous write. It makes me think of the living habitats of these two birds. One is free and soars to highest peaks (perhaps a feathered sage in meditation) and the other often lives in the hub of humanity, as if heart-bound to a species. Very impressive sonnet. s and best wishes always... ~Genie~

    A fine Elizabethan sonnet, Marion.

Even Shakespeare used the occasional sight rhyme as you did. What a beautiful evocation of dedication to "White Dove, our Sister". Your diametrically opposed Eagle and Dove are the essence of well used symbolism. Strength through gentleness and strength is paramount in life and in your finely counterpoised sonnet. The over-riding figure of speech, the apostrophe of address, informs so pleasingly, the entire poem. Personally, I found your language and sentiment rather beautiful.

Oh my good gosh I don’t know what to say, I am so honored that you wrote this poem for me… It is beautiful and the graphic you chose is the same one I chose for one of my writes about my great grandmother. Called to soar with eagles http://allpoetry.com/poem/2218083 This is such a beautiful border as well. Your strength dear sister is but a click away, each time I see your author page or avatar I can feel it, like a chick under a strong feathered breast. I love it Thank you
May the wind always blow under your wings
