The ancients knew about them,
Giant hieroglyphs carved on massive stone walls.
Only they knew what they intended.
But, they knew, they knew, they knew...
They would walk in front of the hieroglyphs
and read them with pride, for they were
a lasting sign of their civilization.
And, they knew it.
The desert wind would howl, and blow their capes astray,
and erode the faces of the heiroglyphs.
But still they stayed, though slightly faded now.
They stayed long enough for others to see.
Today, I stand in front of one of those edifices,
and try to make sense of the past, present, and future.
I still can't see it, but I can feel it...
the Knowledge that God didn't want us to know.
I think he meant us to be simple children,
and relish life as it came,
and enjoy the wind, instead of regret it.
But........that didn't happen.
God made one mistake, he made us too smart,
and soon we thought we could improve on God's world.
And so we did, leading us into the current mess.
But the ancient ones, they knew better,
and left us signs in the form of giant stone hieroglyphs.
Sadly, we cannot read the signs, and even if we could,
we probably wouldn't understand them.
For man is an egotistical creature, and thinks
he can rule his own destiny. {HAH!}
The death of man will come through his ignorance,
in spite of the knowledge we were given.
Bye, bye, Miss American Pie..........

Hi, well here I am to do the comment on your poem, at one point I thought you were going to write about ancient Egypt, my favorite subject lol, the pic would not suggest that though, interesting write, quite a lot of anger between the lines, yes mortals do have the arrogance to think they could improve on the gods or God's masterpiece, I wonder if we are as smart as we think we are? up to now we have just made a hash of everything, I liked this poem and liked it a lot, I hope to get the comp judged on Sunday but as I said no promises that I will be able to,you did not seem to know that a lot of comps we comment after closing, I usually read all then re read but due to a 65 hour week this last two weeks I was unable to do o before, but all poems will be read several times before I decide who I think has written the best poems, please no more unwarranted attacks, I really do not need this kind of thing in my comps, I always judge fairly,Di

Brazos I have to disagree
We're all installed in this melee
To try to make some sense of it
And do our best as we see fit
Some say that your god put us here
To hoist a glass and have good cheer
I have to disagree with that
We're here to build under our hat
To gain insight and understand
The others throughout all the land
Upon this earth - we're here to learn
Only one thing, have no concern
That one thing is to learn to Love
All others who are in the glove
Of consciousness that we possess
Love we must learn not to repress.
Another thing if god did not want
Us to know things why would he taunt
Us with edifice carved from stone
Were those ancients trying to hone?
And sharpen up man’s consciousness
To leave mankind lacking duress. -
A world a chasing many wants
forgotten what he needs
A world been picking all the fruits
but planting no new seeds
A world polluting up his home
forgetting, lives there too
Someday comes point of no return
then what are we to do
