Embraces Unbroken

The scoreboard still flashes an eerie glow,
wrappers and bottles are strewn
in the ragged grass, the uncovered earth,
and a football stands alone,
the bleachers are deserted,
for all but one.
Two salty rivers race the length of each cheek,
droplets cling to eyelashes,
and her violet eyes brim with fresh tears,
there's a burst of heartache
and her shuddering sob explodes in the din,
the sun is falling as the sky's velvet dotted with stars
overtakes the gold-painted horizon,
and she's alone to weep,
the air fraught with tension
and woven with sorrow...
and as the darkness consumes the last gold rays,
an arm snakes around her shoulder,
she keeps her head bowed,
but two breaths are two clouds of misty grief,
and she's wrapped in another's arms,
and she knows the sun will set,
giving in to the darkness...
but again, it will rise,
in renewed beauty, emerging from dark,
to burst unto light,
in an embrace still unbroken
with sorrows unspoken,
there will be a time for sunrises,
for light to erupt,
for darkness to clear,
for tears to dry,
for smiles to bloom,
for new beginnings.

This poem has beautiful sentiment and unique setting and perspective. My only critique is that "still" seems out of place in the first line.

    Thanks for the entry.
