Living My Lie

Missing image
Only the truth is the answer
about one night if pure bliss.
Promising to be more than friends
We sealed our union with a kiss.

Nine months later; Oh Lord!
I heard our sons first cry.
This was breaking my heart
Now he’s;  Living my lie.

You say;  how could it happen?
Yet I’m mothering our child.
My beautiful moments of love
Lasted for just a little while.

Here’s the real question Dad!
How can I tell this little guy.
His father died in the war
Now he’s;  Living my lie.

    Well Written

Your poem points out how a small lie in the begining can come about to haunt a person or persons later in life. Your poem is very emotional and filled with imagery. Good write.....Katie Lazette

    Reality vs. Fiction

this is a grabber. The voice has an agenda and is bringing the child into it, why? so this is the tension of the story...motives...truth seems to be a casualty. This is a well written story and compelling. The writer shows a lot of skill, so much in a short piece, so much emotion...This is excellent...PK

    THE GREATEST QUESTION

This is the greatest question to be asked about the poem .How could the persona tell this poor little boy that the father is deceased.I love the way your story runs through the lines moving the readers through the tone, mood, language, rhythm and meter.

    Excellent

You have done a great job here, often in the past peopl e were not so open about having children out of wedlock, you can make this into a book, just think growing in the same thinking your father died and but he has a family all the way on the other side of town, that is raising with all the love and care that a father should, something that you never had, he falls for a girl but it is a forbidden love, for love between brother and sister are forbidden, longing to be with her even though your motyher strictly forbids it, then your mother goes to your father and explains, taken back by all her lies over the years, he breaks down and tels you the truth, not believing you want a blodd test, then you hate both of them thinking that they were both in on it, when the results come back 99.99% that this man is your father, well I ccan go on and on, you can do a whole series on this poem alone or even a novel, it would be a best seller too, excellent write, thank you for sharing and keep them coming.

This is great. The emotion is strong and powerful. It's so tragic when a child is left without a father, especially when the father could easily be there but chooses not to be. It's so sad... Anyways, great job. Thanks for entering. Good luck.

    Hmm.

Well I think that you did capture the essence of what to tell a child whose father is not there. But in this sense having had a child by a man that was not legally married to me, I can understand why one would want to say the father died in the war. In the end though truth wins out.

How tragic for a child to be left without a father.

This poem begs the question: what is this lie?

How can I tell this little guy?
(His father died in the war): this is the lie!

She told everybody, she now telling their son!

Based on lies I heard told when I was a teen, girls got in touble didn't brag like most do now.....
