the melodious mourning tune presses on, a cradle woven for bearing agony
calm blanketing waters otherwise feral with a lyre of heavenly gold
atop a crest of decomposing life, twisting songs and fates
porcelain faces upon the shore, anticipating their final juncture
with a little less hope, and a little more abandon
channel flowing rouge whisking wicked tormented to rest
and dividing the land of dreamers from the land of waking
skies twist, swirl, crash where dark meets light
still, grieving shrieking grows to overtake the lulling tune
even gods cannot prove a match confronting extreme contrition
no comforting words or reassurance given, hope retires
forfeiting chances for salvation to the sinners
and the damned are left to fight the end just as they left the world
alone
Author notes
Love the whole idea of Orpheus calming those crossing the Styx, though I'm not sure I've done it justice...
