Lying in the garden west is a soul,
Glistening beneath frailty’s tears death calls.
Hardening pain encases her lost heart,
Whilst she stand frozen awaiting her love.
I spoke with her a century ago,
{Joy shined throughout earthen smiles back then}
Curiosity was my delight’s taste,
She, willing to tell all spoke of her life.
A maiden of the fairest kind was she,
Elegant in beauty, gracious mercy.
He, Captain of the sea, promised return.
Her soul, bound, continued the widow’s walk.
Red rage from the ocean depths claimed his life,
No body found; denial overtook.
Claiming the future, talons of grief fanged,
Relentlessly refusing her release.
Decade upon decade, the maiden wept.
Winter came with its frozen iciness
To imprison beauty within her tears.
I saw her today as she stood back then,
Glistening beneath frailty’s tears, death called...
Purgatory as my comforting hand,
My soul went searching endlessly.
Should my love show his soul, I will accept.

Wonderful take on the pic which inspired you!
Such a dark tone, but also much beauty illustrated in this excellent poem!
