I looked at the beauty of your face
I saw the brilliance of your glory
So I sought to dishonor your grace
I spread a false degrading story
I watched as you accumulated wealth
I saw the luxurious things you would buy
I saw your vigor and your health
I felt as if I had nothing and soon would die
I plotted how I would steal your abundance
I devised ways to take away your life
But I lacked your power and brilliance
I found no peace or rest in my strife
In my hurt, you came to me as a friend
You shared with me your abundance
My brokenness, you began to mend
Though between us, I had created such distance
In your generosity, I found peace
In your love ,I found humility
Your decline became my increase
I repented of all of my futility
I saw the brilliance of your glory
So I sought to dishonor your grace
I spread a false degrading story
I watched as you accumulated wealth
I saw the luxurious things you would buy
I saw your vigor and your health
I felt as if I had nothing and soon would die
I plotted how I would steal your abundance
I devised ways to take away your life
But I lacked your power and brilliance
I found no peace or rest in my strife
In my hurt, you came to me as a friend
You shared with me your abundance
My brokenness, you began to mend
Though between us, I had created such distance
In your generosity, I found peace
In your love ,I found humility
Your decline became my increase
I repented of all of my futility
Author notes
Envy is futile. It is striving after the wind. When we look to God's generosity and blessings we have no need to Envy.
Ecclesiastes 4:4
And I saw that all labor and all achievement spring from man's envy of his neighbor. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
