The Angel and the Dragon (Ballad Verse)

"And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.  And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."
                        Revelation 12:7-9

With swinging sword of silver
the angel led his host,
against the raging Dragon
and all the demons he could boast.

A tale as old as time itself
when God first spoke the words,
raising up upon the Earth
all men and beasts and herbs.

The angel met the Dragon
like a wave against a rock.
The stength of God dwelt in his arm
as it dwells in all God's flock

Michael did not waver
beneath the traitor's stinging strikes,
for God rewards His loyalists,
and endows them with His might.

The Dragon dashed his gaping maw
all lined with slavered fangs
against the steel of Michael's shield
with resonating clangs.

The angel struck precisely
as one who knew his foe.
The Dragon could not help but yield
beneath his ringing blows,

and all around the forces
of Hell and Heaven warred,
a cacophony of passions
like nothing heard before.

The shouts of warring angels
rent the air like eagle cries
and sparks of divine anger
flashed and glittered in their eyes.

The host that could have come
when Christ hung on the tree,
a host ten thousand seraphs strong
fought to keep His servants free.

Their numbers did not avail
fhe Dragon's loathesome band,
for against the hosts of heaven
no foe can hope to stand.

So they were cast Earthward
within that fateful hour
to go about as lions
seeking what they might devour,

but those who cast them downward,
and do the bidding of the Three
do not forget the ones who serve
the man that died upon the tree.

Author notes

Some references
Michael is an archangel, one of only two angels called by name in the Bible along with Gabriel.
The ten thousand angel army references both a hymn (He Could Have Called Ten Thousand Angels) and the verses Matthew 26: 52-54 in which Peter cuts off the ear of a guard who tries to arrest Jesus before he is crucified. The reply is:
52 "Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him, "for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. 53 Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?"
The bit about Satan going about as a lion references Peter 5:8 which reads: "8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour."

I absolutely love this..and like hungry lions knowing they have but a short bit of time try to fill their rapacious appetites..we should all be wary. Especially knowing that the devil can change himself to an angel of light..fooling the unwary.

This is really good, I studied theology at Victory bible Institute in Tulsa OK, and am very familer with the refrences used, and the poem itself flows really well, you even had a strong vocabulary used and the rhymes didn't sound forsed. so great job. - Jacen an IndividualEleven.
