Day 21
23 March 2007
Headlines of the day: New task announced
Let's keep this game moving along, as I reveal to you the latest task. As a group, you are again to be evaluated but for this round you will be individually writing. The team that overall has the strongest pieces will be the one that's safe another week. The losing team will lose not one, but two members-- one decided by by the group, the other by a panel of judges that will be announced at a later time.
For this round, I want to see your piece be influenced by culture and customs. I have a found a brilliant website whose link is posted below. There, you may search any country in the world and find interesting information on festivals and celebrations, locations of interest, pop culture news in some areas, literature and art work, religion, heritage, etc. You may also find some folklore and other traveling tips.
Your job is to write a metaphorical/ personal piece that relates to one of these places. For example, I found that in Iceland there is a festival that involves dew. On a certain day, they believe the dew is magical and contains healing powers that will cure certain diseases. For that, they roll around naked in the dew to cleanse themselves.
In India, they celebrate one day by throwing colored powder at each other and pouring water over it. France's Bois de Bologne sees brilliant hikers by day, but drug lords by night.
The point is to find something interesting and stimulating that you may use to pen your work. As said though, I do not want this to be a poem about the place you have chosen. I want this to relate to you; stretch your minds.
You may individually decide what country you are choosing, and it does not have to be on the same continent as the other members of your group. However, no two people may use the same country; your team or the other. You must message me once you've chosen your location, so then I may declare that you've reserved it.
