History Hates Cliché

I did it because they told me to, she swore
With that blood upon the white dress she wore
But later, in confessional, she confessed to possession of
    The sweetest seed of hate
The kind that rips at the heart and takes the breath away

So the moon stained itself deep red
In attempts to shadow out Hitler’s games
But the sun reflected, and burned rubies into our hearts
Forcing the world to bleed again

Twelve years later, in dread silence
A million souls exploded and found a way to die
For the sake of saving country, hearts, and lives

We did it because she swore to us, they told me
As they rotted from all they had hoped to be
And three days later, two thousand years ago
      The dirt birthed a savior
Yet still we sell our souls

Good write, I enjoyed reading although it is about some of the most horrible things ever to happen to mankind. It is amazing how the influence of one person can alter the course of history, whether for good or for bad. In this case bad. THank you for your entry and the best of luck to you.

Thank you for entering my contest. Your author notes are so true... and this poem is just great. I love the way you set this up and of course also the message this piece contains. The last stanza was a really interesting turn.

Good luck and keep on writinG!
