A tear streaks down from the Lady’s eye,
As She stands, holding up The Flame.
She feels betrayed by Her very own,
And Liberty is Her name.
She remembers ; back, while in Her prime,
Simple things from days gone by.
The Star Spangled Banner, the girl next door,
Uncle Sam and Mom’s apple pie.
Now drugs and crime and laws that bend,
To the sound of money or fame.
With bullies that feed on the helpless,
And federal agents that do the same.
Her children can’t trust the government,
The way they did back then.
Another tear runs down The Lady’s face,
As we crumble from within.

This is very expressive of many of the views of today. Honestly I don't know that things are actually worse or if we just know more more often now. I think freedom still lies in the heart of the individual. Freedom is what we make of it. I believe our history is rich in things that made the lady cry, but we overcame them. Things like slavery, bigotry and glass ceilings. We still struggle to overcome and we are not defeated until we as individuals give up our insistence that all people are created equal.
Thanks for a write that reminds me that I am America and I can make a difference and so can you

WOW! Such power in your words, I have chills reading it. I am sure she does cry, as do the many who came before us to make a better land.
What have we become and what will we be when it is over? Strong and wonderfully done.
Best to you.
Thank you for entering! -
Powerful-
Holy Moly~
Talk about Power in a few lines that take the breath away~
Society has changed in not so positive way~
You are so right~
You have hit on major issues that are so impactful...
I shed tears thinking of how people are treating their fellow brethren...those with disabilities
being attacked by Youth with baseball bats
(along with stray dogs used for batting practice)
No disregard for Humanity...and filming the incident for self-amusement....
Sad to inhale but words that needed to be heard!
Thank You for sharing this my Friend
Best wishes to You in the contest
Many blessings too
and much love~ Desire~*~
