Human race

Missing image

people have lost their compassion
and love is only to ration
image becoming a passion
out of fashion, out of fashion

.
everyone’s in a big hurry
like insects they run and scurry
to work and back in a flurry
grief and worry, grief and worry
.
running a race that you can’t win
for tolerance has replaced sin
this whirlwind life will make you spin
to our chagrin, to our chagrin
.
empathy lost without a trace
squeezing you out to take your place
suing you in a legal case
this human race, this human race

.

Author notes

Monotetra
The monotetra is a new poetic form developed by Michael Walker. Each stanza contains four lines in monorhyme. Each line is in tetrameter (four metrical feet) for a total of eight syllables. What makes the monotetra so powerful as a poetic form, is that the last line contains two metrical feet, repeated. It can have as few as one or two stanzas, or as many as desired.

Stanza Structure:

Line 1: 8 syllables; A1
Line 2: 8 syllables; A2
Line 3: 8 syllables; A3
Line 4: 4 syllables, repeated; A4, A4

Gathering up this fabulous form and holding it close. The repeating lines charm me completely.

    Bravo!!! Bravo!!! Bravo!!!

Amera, This is absolutely brilliant. You captured the essence of society in this monotetra, which by the way I recently tried this and loved the form. Your excellent verbiage creates such wonderful imagery and the rhythm and rhyme flow effortlessly from your golden pen. I am so happy that you found my work and it brought me to yours. Your God given talent shows in each of the pieces I have read from you thus far and you are a blessing to the poetic community. Thank you for sharing yet another masterpiece and kudos again for the brilliance before me. Love and God bless, Joyce

How morbidly true! Girl this is a very strong and well written piece. The truth could not be any clearer or more in your face. Flow and form perfectly you, with so much depth and thought provoking words. The picture could not have been anymore perfect for it. Fits all too well. You just showed us to a tee where humane compassion went and just how out of fashion it is.
So sad, so sad...this is what we have become.
    Excellent work!
