My Prayer for Serenity
God grant me
serenity
true peace
not just the exhausted pause you take
between crossing things off
your type A to do list.
The serenity to accept that I cannot change
the hole that grandpa burnt in my tongue and groove porch
or the child arrested for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
and turning 46 when I want to be 30.
And grant me the courage
to change the things I can
though I struggle with them and they and it
but influencing only me, myself, and.
Give me the wisdom to know the difference
not to run forward
like a toddler in a toy store
who grabs at everything
but grasps nothing
and tantrums when he's tired
or doesn't' get his way.
God grant me the ability
to be a better me than I'd like to be.
