he tried to rescind
the reverberations
but couldn't
so the echo continued
she tried to cancel
the retort she spoke in anger
only to see the scorn
in his eyes
they tried to recall
a time when they
were not trying to
take back words they'd said
there was no way to retract
all that had gone before
so they kept
reliving their past

What a wonderful way to use the word here. I could also feel scene after scene playing out in my mind and imagine ways that it fit. Thank you for taking the time and effort to enter my contest. Good luck!

Well done! This is powerful, your flow is smooth and leads to an unforgettable image. How many times have I regretted something I said. It can’t be taken back and for that we must be careful.
Love,
