Last night I saw a shooting star.
It blazed across the skies.
Behind it trailed a banner.
I could not believe my eyes.
It was not the usual message,
like those seen behind a plane,
saying ‘Happy Birthday To My Mum’
or ‘Mo’s Had Twins Again’

A message loud and clear.

though to the stars I often stare.
And I certainly keep thinking
of the scrap that we leave there.
I’m all for exploration,
and new invention too.
But what happens in the future,
when our spaceships can’t get through?
I think it’s so important,
when through the skies we roam,
by all means seek new planets.
But ‘Take Your Litter Home’

Great Write!
My friend YoursTruelyJulie demanded I check you out and I'm glad I did. I like the beauty of the first stanza and I think it juxtaposes wonderfully with the rubbish you write of. A great poem and a great message.
