A Wreath of Gratitude

A wreath may be a circle of flowers,
flower bearing boughs or leafy twigs,
twigs or vines woven into a ring
to ring a thought with beauty.
Beautiful words may encircle ideas,
ideas more lovely through poetic speech,
speaking in metaphor to describe
with description of another object.

Who objects to such invention?
Inventiveness adds interest to life,
and life is badly in need of variation.
Varying expressions are the work of poets,
in poetry eternal issues take new forms,
formed from air and inspiration.

Whoever inspires poetry may be called a muse,
amusing, challenging, drawing out wonders,
wondering, hoping, teaching and leading,
a leader who shows that poetry is present,
a presence in life for all to enjoy.

Enjoyment is not to be lightly taken,
taking pleasure and discarding heedlessly -
heeding what one owes, recognition is given,
and so I give to Marcy this small token,
a token of her effort, and my gratitude.

That looks like fun, where ends become beinnings, not the other way around...made me, for some reason think of the mediaeval Celtic image of the snake swallowing its own tail. Neat.

Hi Yem, would you please do me a favour and applaud ea's comment? Apparently you are the "owner" I tried but was not allowed.

cool as cucumbers ... er, in the garden
      gardens bring unencumbered Cukey kings.

Thank you, Margaret, for this wonderful wreath I'm indebted to you for your kindness, every day since we met over the Year of the Pig, for your enlightening comments and all the guidance I find in your poetry, both in sentiment, philosophy and style. You know this wreath comes back to you like a boomerang for having introduced me to it. I love it, especially the thought, "Who objects to invention?" ♥

Thanks for applause Marcy I am not able to upgrade your comment, since I am not the owner, a little frustration which I hope Yem will remedy.
It is a great pleasure to meet like minds - wherever they are - and to feed a loop of inspiration.

Oh, how wonderfully special this is and so beautiful and full of that Poetry of which you speak, oh and I agree about the line Lyndon noted, 'to ring a thought with beauty' is, indeed a lovely line and here you have made beautiful many thoughts and the whole of this besspeaks the power and beauty of words, poetry and the muse that here we find through ea.
What an exquisite way to begin this!
What a beautiful tribute to Marcy, to ea and I wish her the Gratitude that You have so eloquently given in this tribute.
Love this, so much lies within the imagery and heart of this 'Wreath of Gratitude'

    A lovely "Wreath" poem :f

Dear Margaret, you are a versatile writer, more so now, I think, than when I first saw your work. "to ring a thought with beauty" is a lovely line. My quirkiness reversed it: "to ring beauty with a thought". I think that you have done both, dear poet.
