that silly game we used to play,
I was the beautiful prinsess,
You were a tough pirate,
You always rescued me,
from the terrible monster,
Even though it was mostly sleeping,
in his yellow doghouse,
Only seven,
at the time we met,
Not knowing,
we would ever part,
We believed,
in happy endings,
But were too old,
for fairytales,
Forever,
was a concrete complutation of time,
We believed,
in rainbows being a sign of parties in heaven,
But rainbows fade,
as did our friendship,
Only quicker,
Everlasting,
The tall, dark boy,
He left the little, bright girl,
No goodbye was said,
She had no clue,
You left a letter,
on small, purple paper,
but you knew my favourite coulor was blue,
And your unfinished thoughts did not answer my burning questions,
Only fourteen,
At the time parted,
Too well knowing,
We would never speak again,
Now I only believe,
in happy beginnings,
And I'm still too old,
for fairytales,
I can not see the rainbows anymore,
They vanished without a warning,
Just like you,
Or maybe heaven has stopped throwing parties,
I cry for you,
I smile for you,
I search the sky for rainbows every day,
I dream of you,
Do you still have,
Your wooden leg, mister pirate,
And do you still believe,
in happy endings...
Author notes
Dear reader,
This poem is about my frienship with Nicholas. We met when we were seven. We were best friends, but he suddenly left when we were fourteen. He left a confusing letter about not being able to tell where he was going and suddenly the letter stopped. He has never been able to finish his it. This happened about a year ago. I'm still very upset about it, but I think it has been good for me to write this poem. This incident has also been the main reason for me to start writing. I hope you enjoyed this piece.
