Soaring to and fro
at the mercy of turbulence
I see the ground through the clouds
but I cannot land.
The landscape unfolds before me;
picturesque vistas full of life.
Mountains, valleys and level roads;
possibilites at every turn.
Each destination seems attractive
each has its own allure;
shining beacons calling me to them.
I wait in midlife holding pattern.
Soon I will have no fuel left
and be forced to land for safety.
My one remaining saving grace,
is that I can always fly again.

Looking at the earth from on high can be such a wonderful sight - flying in a plane and seeing what's below is an amazing sisght. Looks as if this is where you are at. Congrats on taking the bronze in this contest.

One nice thing about getting older..lol..we can see the twists and turns, and sometimes fly as the crow flies..and sometimes we can get distracted. But I love the last line, and yes, we can always fly/try again.
I agree with Richard. An excellent message, and wonderfully written.

this is well developed and concise, yet it holds wisdom of wings and being able to see where you are going and where you've been

Oh to be soaring through the skies somewhere at this time. Feeling that sense of freedom and adventure... that strong pulse of LIFE beating through every vessel in your body. This is wonderful Terry. You hit the imagery dead on my friend! Good luck in the contest.

Love it! I often fly, in dreams and while awake. this poem touches my spirit, as I understand every inflection. Good to know that I am not the only one in this place but then I knew there were many lifted spirits gliding beside me. The second and third stanza really stick to my being! The best to you in this challenge my dear friend.
Much Love ♥
