~~ Twilight~~

Missing image
The sun is sinking in the west
And all the sky's aglow with hues
Of red and orange; and a crest
Of purple through the clouds now spews~

The haze of dusk draws forth a state
Of melancholy 'nough to bring
A man to quest a gentle mate
To cheer him, cause his heart to sing~

As ever lower dims the light
And silent clouds turn ever dark
A breeze springs up to usher night
Across the nests of voiceless larks~

And starlings flit o'er the house and tree
As fireflies wink and go their way
A promise of a night thats free
Of cares and troubles of the day~

So nestle twilight to your breast
And peaceful, kindly thoughts aspawn
As from day's toil you take your rest
And slumber till the bright'ning dawn~

This took my breath away sis. As I sit here and comment the sun is rising over the mountains almost like in your poem. Almost. Just a wonderful poem...it's like saying "Calgon, take me away" when reading your beautiful prose.

This was a good poem! I really liekd the stanza:
And starlings flit o'er the house and tree
As fireflies wink and go their way
A promise of a night thats free
Of cares and troubles of the day~
I thought that your rhyming was a little forced in other places but overall this was a very nice poem. Thanks for entering! Good luck!

This really was very lovely. Your form was clearly tailored for this. There was just a place or two where it seemed as though it was a syllable off in the meter, but when I read through the second time- I found it was just me.

In the verse: ... promise of a night thats free- the only thing you need there is the apostrophe in "that's" to make it a contraction. That's about the only suggestion I have.

    Nicely done.

Again, thanks for the earlier reading you've done for my poems. You certainly are amongst one of the pleasures to interact with on here. I shall go and read the other you posted most recently now.

It made me feel as if I were there experiencing it. Very peaceful. The Wink of the Firefly. I love that description. I should learn to speak like this. That would be really cool. If I keep reading poetry, I'll get there. Lovely. Thank you, Nature's Poet! Peace & Love. ET

"Heavenly shades of night are falling, it's twilight time."...(one of my favorite songs by The Platters). Your lovely words rival the words in this beautiful song! I liked the fireflies "winking"...a very pretty poem, Sis!

Oh Susan....how beautiful once again. I am starting to believe you turn into a little elf and come observe what goes on over here at my house { this is a literal description of how it is on so many evenings here } I live only 5 minutes outside of Annapolis , but the area here is still very rural , as soon as you are off the highway , and we could invite Wolfbane to come along...I do have that porchswing { well it is a glider } but close enough So what is left to say Susan....not a thing besides that you seem to outdo your previous one each time you put thought to keys
    hope this finds you well
