We Will Run Barefoot This Summer

We will paint the house this summer
We will plant the flowers
we will have salads of fresh greens
and tomatoes
fat and ripe whose acids burn
on sunburned lips

The sun will be hot, our skin sticky
I'll watch my brother in the afternoon
we will walk out with the sheep
and watch them jump
over the fence
we will make picnics

and eat lunch at the cemetery
the heat will be unbearable
it is scorching in Idaho
the skin on our shoulders will peel
we will do the dishes with the window
open to let the breeze in

We will sneak out after dark
we will dance in the night
we will sing songs we barely remember
from our childhood
do you remember the song about the fairies?
We will run barefoot

Please tell me what you think
