After the Hill

I ache to the core
all my body set afire with pain
I want nothing more than to collapse on the ground
feel the crumbling, cool dirt under my cheek
but my face is sticky with warm, red blood
and my enemy stands there taunting
I must force my body upward
and run up the vertical hill
complete the impossible
and force my shaking, wavering limbs to hold me up just a bit longer
I must win this race or die
I must fight this fight or never fight again
I must face the challenge with a cold spirit
and I will triumph!!

Author notes

This is after I successfully ran Victory Hill. Any RA soccer or lax players know the terrors therein.
