Because Barbie Says So

Barbie says that if I'm friends with her
I can touch the sky
And that no matter what happens to me
She'll be by my side

Barbie says that she has a boyfriend
And if I join her I can too
He'll be the sexiest guy to walk the earth
And everyone will know it's true

I'm going to be super thin
Because Barbie says so
I'm going to try to fit in
Because Barbie says so
I'm going to live life so it's worth it
Because Barbie says so
Everything is going to be absolutely perfect
Because Barbie says so

Barbie says that if I loose weight
I will be a star
And that if I'm stick-thin like her
I'll have a hot boyfriend and a cool car

Barbie says that if I come to the party
We can stay up late
And by the time the night is over
I'll have hottie Ken as my date

I'm going to be super thin
Because Barbie says so
I'm going to try to fit in
Because Barbie says so
I'm going to live life so it's worth it
Because Barbie says so
Everything is going to be absolutely perfect
Because Barbie says so

Barbie says that if I have a smoke
I'll be happier than ever before
And if I try a beer
I'll keep on wanting more

Barbie says that if I get high
Ken and I can sneak off
And that if I get drunk
I can do stuff with him in the loft

I'm going to be super thin
Because Barbie says so
I'm going to try to fit in
Because Barbie says so
I'm going to live life so it's worth it

So because Barbie says so
I did do all those things
And you know what? For about a month
I was happier that I'd ever been

I was having the time of my life
Until I started feeling sick
And soon after that I found out
That in nine months I would have a kid

I'm going to be super thin
Because Barbie says so
I'm going to give up this kid
Because Barbie says so
I'm going to live life so it's worth it
Because Barbie says so
Without a child my life will be perfect
Because Barbie says so

So I gave up my daughter
By putting her up for adoption
After all, if I wanted to keep my wonderful life
Keeping her wasn't an option

So because Barbie said so
I completely changed my life around
And I don't regret it even a little
Because it's so much better now

I am now super thin
Because Barbie said so
I am not fitting in
Because Brabie said so
I'm living life so it's worth it
Because Barbie said so
I am absolutely perfect
Because Barbie said so

I'm living the best life ever
Because Barbie said so
I've been changed forever
Because Barbie said so
I've got the coolest friends
Because Barbie said so
I'll never be the same again
Because Barbie said so

    I enjoyed this piece.
    It depicted to me the troubles teens go through everyday trying to fit in. They'll do drastic things to be cool. And I know first hand.
    It truly gets you nowhere. You end up.. well wacked up.
    So, yeahh, I like this poem, and the message it's sending.

    Society is very sick these days- I hate seeing pregnant girls because their lives have been ruined. It's always either some idiot's violent and stupid actions or because the girl hasn't been taught. Either way it's sad. And I can tell you hate that every bit as much as I do. *sigh*
    Cool poem, very real and true.
    "Because Barbie said so". Awesome line. Touche!

    this would have to be one of the most intruiging society type poems i have read in a very long while... just like beauty magazines and all that we fall into that 'we have to or otherwise we're not cool' category.. you really did an awesome job here... its so much better to just be yourself.

    Wow. Very profound and intriguing, it was an excellent poem. It just goes to show you should be yourself and not try to fit in with the crowd. Great write!
