Watchtower

The world feel dark tonight,
As the beams catch the water so far beneath me,
Illuminating the vacany sign in my heart.
On the soft waves I see stories from my past,
Once hidden deep behind my eyelids,
Now dancing as the moonlight gazes calmly down on me.
I see my first love, summers spent on the coast,
Sun kissing youthful skin, too many miles away
And too many lifetimes ago to return to.
Blue eyed boys touched us in motel rooms,
And swore they'd never leave us,
I'm sure he's gotten married since then,
Had a couple of kids, barely remembering me
Except as a phantom of a past he longs
To forget.
I recall the love we left at that shore,
The long goodbye kiss that now drifts on the ocean,
And tonight it remembers, slipping into me as I breathe,
In, out, in out, repetitive motion,
And I believe, somewhere, in a pristine suburban home
You're thinking of me,
The girl in the watchtower.

Author notes

And as the summer's ending, the cold air will rush your hard heart away, you were so condesending, and this is all that's left, the empty bottles spent cigarettes, so pack a change of clothes cos it's time to move on.

I knew you'd be here eventually.

You know, at first i was like, "im rather confused about this piece" but after re-reading and taking the time to actually let the words wash over me, it falls a bit more into place.

Oddly enough, your author notes hit home more than anything.

It's a beautifully written piece and you have a way with words that most people cannot ever hope to grasp.
