My Retreat

I hate how I love the lies
Because anything can beat
The silence that echoes
Along with my retreat
Nothing asked, nothing told
Nothing lost and nothing gained
Because no matter what the story
The consequence is the same
I’ll hate it for the moment
But then the moment will pass
Because the way your smile warms me
Lets no bitter feeling last
I’ll go for a walk to find myself
And try to work up what to say
So we can both forget about this
And I can continue my day
A cloud overhead is drifting
And I won’t make a sound
Even though this silence
Is because you’re not around
The black and white reflections
Show only my state of mind
Looking for the answers
That none of us can find
Five minutes, a breath and a sigh,
Two raindrops later the sun appears
And suddenly there’s beauty everywhere
Everything’s better when you’re here
So I’ll listen to your lies and smile
Because somehow they set things right
I’ll take your story and not say a word
Though someday I might
Maybe I’ll look you in the eye
And I’ll tell you how it goes
Why would you tell a lie
When it always shows?
We both know the truth
So is it better left to be
Because the real issue
Is when you lie to me
I don’t mind your privacy
And honestly, I don’t even care
What you do and when you do it
When I am not there
But don’t stand there and smile
And expect me to understand
As you lead through your maze of lies
Guiding me with your hands
Just don’t say a word
It’s better of that way
Lets just sit here together
And enjoy this day
We won’t think of today
We won’t think of tomorrow
We won’t think of anything
That could bring us sorrow
Lets just watch the clouds
Lets just feel the rain
And maybe if we try hard enough
I’ll feel okay again
