This Lent is the Lent of my divorce.
I'd not thought of any basket for Easter,
If I'm a man, is this the natural course?
Yet I've Kinder --as I call my kids--
then let me get of my keester!

Let me rise and go do it,
as I prepare to find contents,
there's noting to it!
I keep thinking and hoping,
make the basket, don't be moping.

For Annie Franek there will be horses,
of candy or other material,
maybe even some veggies.
My wife and I have tried to much
to offer alternatives as such:
other things than sweets and chocolates
so I'll put in fruits and nuts,
and maybe some toys,
maybe even a small book!

For Casey Jones the choice too is fun:
he loves trains and trucks,
so I'll get him of each at least one.
Also the fruits, too the nuts,
maybe even a honey bun.
I'm not such a nazi I won't put candy,
but to have healthy choices are just so dandy.

Poetic Aphrodite, thank you for reminding
me of this little custom for the Resurrection!
Even amids tragedy one can be happy.
To rise and start fresh shall be my intention.
As I transition on to my new life,
I'll take time for the little things
such mundane little objects
as fork, spoon, and knife,
without which one might still ge by
the harshness, the bitterness.
Like sugar in the coffee will be the baskets
which I'll make in these next weeks.

Author notes

When is Easter? Let me check the calendar: in three weeks from the day I write and post this, 'twill be the Saturday before Easter.

A contest entry

Please offer me suggestions as to how I could rephrase or choose better words, to make the poem sounder, better.

Well, there's a couple of places where you might've missed a few spelling/grammatical errors, but otherwise this is pretty cute. It's cool that you've been able to get your kids to like Easter without all the chocolate and jelly beans and candy and such; the fact that they can appreciate the holiday without such stuff is great. The thanking the contest holder was a nice touch.
    Take care!
