At What Cost

I too want the troops home
But at what cost I dare ask
The freedom of my family
To walk the streets

My children in a school
That has never feared a bomb
Malls and roads free of death
No peaceful summer park

A job that I can go to
Without fear of pending doom
I too want the troops home
But we should not pay that cost

Author notes

I hear the Democrates are demanding a end to the war. I agree with there goal, But I'm not sure they are seeing the big picture. WE can fight the terroist here in Iraq or on the home front. And that is whereever you live. These people want to kill people. I maybe a year or two beforethe reach America but how much havic can they get away with in Europe and Asia. Let's finish it here then go home.

The title of this poem says it all... I find most people want true peace and security, yet when it comes down to doing anything to make changes that interfere with their own way of life, the war cry gradually fades away... how I long for the simple things you have mentioned in your poem, such as the whole world having no fear of bombings, no fear in the wide eyes of frightened children, mothers, no sleepless eyes of the soldiers who dare not sleep for fear of attack. The people who live in the war zones, the innocent little ones, the soldiers who are there to protect them, these are the ones who are most at risk.
If I had just one wish... it would be for peace of mind, simply because, if we had peace of mind, then it would mean we had no war to be afraid of, neither mothers, children, elderly or the soldiers who are the ones in the line of fire... I make mention too of the wives, children and families of the soldiers who sit in fear waiting for their loved ones to come home safely to them.

I always enjoy your writes, thank you for this one to

    ~Katie~

this is one of the best i believe i have read of yours!!! this really sends out a very strong message with your feelings leading all the way. and yes, that is what they want. that is all some of them want. to kill innocent human beings. brothers sisters, mothers, fathers, children.... sad. but, this is our reality. this is now. but does not have to be.

    very real.

Take care & great thoughts. deep.

to me, the thought of a child fearing being bombed at school is terrorizing in and of itself. my daughter's school had a school shooting a little over a year ago. this year, she was nervous going to school on the anniversary because of the rumors about it happening again. i can not imagine if she had to deal with this on a daily basis.

thank you for speaking so honestly on this topic. viyanna rosemarie

i too want to end the war. i hate war always have always will. now dont get me wrong and accuse me of hating our boys and girls in the armed forces. war is an ugly thing and the less of it we have the better off we will be. preferably we fight on their turf and take the battle to them

    excellent

So Much truth as to the reality of what could happen. How do you demand a war is ended when there is still an enemy that wants to fight and will do that no matter what. I agree, I would love to see the troops go home and peace be with the world again. But also agree if we leave now there will never be peace and the peace as we know it will be forever filled with the fear of terrorism. These people will get braver and braver. They have showed the world once what they are capable of. I just hope these elected officials take the time to weigh all the possibilities and think of the what could be, before they make a wrong decision. Great write and food for thought. I support what we are doing now, God bless all whole are now fighting and I leaders of the countries involved to look at the big picture and make the wise choices as to the answers.

I will always support the principle of the reason why you are there Chuck, and your unselfish motives in helping the Iraqi people, civilians who are at the mercy of insurgents and Sheites, and Sunni civil war..I feel what you say is very real,as I have shared with you before. It has come to our doorstep literally here on AP.The cost seems too great. But as the fascists of the 2nd World war would have won if Canada and America, and Britain not gone in.Does not the same risk apply now, only we are dealing not with one nation, but many of the same view..No..keep talking it, walking it, and though in thought we say the risk too great..One day we will say..At least we tried! And we won't regret it! Good thoughts! And good write!
