Song of a Child Soldier

Teach me table manners, the use of my spoon and knife;
The maths and science to put our world right;
Handling of the soil to end our food plight;
Yes, teach me of the basic things of life.

Hate and war today in the world is rife;
Let me see the beauty in black as in white;
Tell me in the dark I remain the light;
Teach me things to curtail this endless strife.

I've lugged this oversized gun for too long;
I act like an adult yet I'm so young.
I should be in the field playing football
But I'm here huddling against a sandbagged wall.

I'd love a nice hug to receive or give
Not bullets that kill and make the heart to grieve.

    Such a sad look into from the eyes of a child. Every child deserves hugs and to be nowhere near wars or bullets but it's so much sadder when you know that yes some of these children are actually behind the guns out of no real choice of their own. Nice to see you back, I've missed you. Hugs~ Cuddles

    A powerful poem and with alot of nice rhyming. It is a tragic and angering occurance when children are forced to become soldiers and I am assuming that you are connecting this to racial issues by the fact that most child soldiers come from poorer countries of coloured backgrounds. I like the first paragraph the most, it is written very strongly and I feel like it opens the poem up and gives more of a look into our own lives.
    Thank you for entering
