Her man

Of all that I have been
And places I have gone;
The roles I have played,
And things I have done.
None have brought more than
the pleasure of being “her man.”

She says I am her man,
The words are simply hers.
I am a part of her world,
A destination she prefers:
a face she longs to see;
and a place she loves to be.

She says I am her man
when she is loving me.
Whispered breathlessly
into my ear, be so near, ever so near.
And it means so much to me, so dear:
When she is the pillow for my head;
And the softness of my bed;
As when we exist as one;
Needing no other reasons, none.

Of all of the things I have been
and roles that I have played;
The promise I have given
And the plans I have made;
None has meant more to me
than the answer in her eyes I see:
Yes, I am her man
