Her soul had been battered,
Her mascara was streaming down her face,
The horror too destructive,
She was a broken child,
Now in her white prom dress.
Standing in the water,
Cold, up to her breast,
All that she sees is the swan,
That is her, now.
Her human soul is lost,
And only the silent swan remains.

Very strong write on the impact that life has upon the soul. Where once the wonderful dreams of tomorrow reside, through the terrible ordeals that come, is one transformed into something else entirely.
Well done and thank you for entering into the contest.
Be well and be blessed,

A very wonderful write to reveal in inner torment that this young lady is going through, sadness is that true battles in ones life make us feel this way many times from the wear and tear of life.
Good Luck in the contest
Blessings

Wonderful!
This is absolutely beautiful and goes so well with the picture! I love it! Sad, but very deep and full of great images. Can't pick a favorite line - like it all!
Good luck in your contest. If it's based on the pic and it were my contest, this would be very hard to beat.

so beautiful!
You express this young woman's deep hopelessness and sadness so well with your words. It really brought a tear to my eye, because I have always loved the graceful beauty of the swan. To have your soul so battered and lost, is so very sad, but your comparison to the swan's silence is very creative.
Thank you for sharing this with all of us.

Sadness
How sad when life takes a bad turn and we are left with the hurt and pain and trying to deal with it. Liked this write.

That is a very pretty picture that you have up today.
It makes me think of the ugly duckling story about baby swan that didn't know what it is. Your poem kind of sounds like that story too. So it's kind of sad.
